Yoga Exercise Equipment
Yoga is a type of exercise that can be practiced almost anywhere, by all different age groups. It combines breathing, meditation, and different poses to strengthen the mind and body. It can be done with a minimal set of yoga exercise equipment, or none at all. The most common types of equipment are props to provide additional support when doing poses or to improve comfort while exercising.
A yoga mat is the most basic item of all yoga exercise equipment. They are sometimes called sticky mats, as they help to reduce the possibility of slipping when feet or hands become sweaty. They also provide cushioning when exercising on hard floors and help to establish one's personal space when doing yoga in a class. Studios often have mats available for loan or rent, but most yoga participants bring their own for comfort and cleanliness purposes. Foam yoga blocks, rollers, and straps are tools that can be used to help with body alignment during poses, especially if you are not able to easily touch your toes. Some classes also incorporate balance balls into yoga routines. It is not uncommon to find balance or stability balls used in prenatal yoga classes to provide extra support for the body during pregnancy.
There are many different styles of yoga, from gentle and slow Hatha to more vigorous Vinyasa or Ashtanga. Before purchasing your own yoga exercise equipment, find out what types of equipment are required for your particular class or style. At American Fitness, we carry a selection of exercise mats and balls, as well as additional props and starter kits. If you need help choosing the right fitness equipment for you, browse our online store or contact one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help.
